When we first met Larry he did not have much confidence in himself. His CV was sparse and did not give enough of an account of himself or his skills. He did not trust his own ability, or have the faith that he could succeed in life. But we discovered in him his passion for music and dj-ing. And it was clear that Larry’s lack of confidence was seriously holding back any chances he had of being in this or any other line of work. He is also dyslexic and has some difficulties around literacy and planning.
The best way to approach these issues was to build up Larry’s confidence using his passion for music. Regular meetings with his caseworker built up his confidence and his conversational ability. To this end he embarked on Reprezent 107.3 FM’s Broadcast Journalism course as well as a DJ training class with Raw Material. Larry also participated in, and assisted on our Events Management Training programme to further increase his confidence and abilities.
Today Larry is now qualified as a youth worker and works at 2 InSpire’s weekly youth club where he facilitates DJ training sessions. He is also having success DJing locally and beyond. He is responsible in his attitude and he relishes the experience. He has a real sense of achievement: he is enjoying himself, his new abilities and building his future.
