InSpire officially opened its doors in 2003 and was opened by the Rt Hon Harriet Harmen.
The charity was the brain child of the then Rector, Giles Goddard who, in 2001 set out to achieve his vision of turning what was a relatively under-used and dilapidated space in the Crypt of St Peter’s church into a thriving community facility for local residents.
After a furious and highly successful fundraising campaign and the subsequent large scale refurbishment of the crypt, his vision finally came to fruition in 2003.
Since opening its doors, InSpire has gone from strength to strength, acquiring a second facility (2InSpire) on the nearby Aylesbury estate in 2005 that is now considered to be one of the most important youth facilities in the local area.
Both centres provide much needed services in an area going through one of the largest regeneration programmes that London has seen for generations.
